Goose Creek District Scouting for Food News Flash Revised November 12, 2007, 10:00am |
|
On Saturday, November 10, we recorded 98,519.9 pounds of food. On Sunday, units dropped off an additional 242.7 pounds, bringing our total to 98,762.6 pounds. We may receive additional Scouting for Food deliveries at the Holiday Coalition on Monday, and I'll keep an updated tally on the web site. On Monday night, I'll close the books on this year's food drive. I want to thank the entire Goose Creek District for an exceptional Scouting for Food drive. The combined efforts of all the participants are astonishing. Once again, we were blessed with a dry day and very few glitches at the collection sites. Hopefully, all the Scouts made it through the event safe and sound. If anyone has a good photo or two they'd like to e-mail me of today's activities, I'd appreciate them. I spent most of the day in fire-fighting mode, so I didn't take any pictures. In case anyone is wondering, last year the District collected 98,661 pounds of food. So we're now 102 pounds ahead of last year's mark. Our District's 25,534 pounds of food collections at LINK today broke the old record set in 2005. Below are the weight totals (in pounds) by participating unit:
Good Turn for America Web Site and NCAC Reporting After Scouting for Food is over, please add your pack or troop's service project information into the Good Turn for America web site. If your unit has not used this site, please see our local instructions. You'll need an estimate of the number of service hours worked as well as the amount of food collected. Last year the web site asked for the number of food items collected in addition to the number of hours, but I recommend you enter the number of pounds, rather than the number of items collected. This year our Council has asked the participating units to enter their Scouting for Food results into the Council web site at the following location: https://secure.boyscouts-ncac.org/Registration/CalendarDetail.asp?ActivityKey=325154&OrgKey=370&returnurl=http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org. The Council appreciates your efforts to make the food drive a success. They will use the data you submit in their media promotions. As always, if you want to discuss any aspect of Scouting for Food, please give me a call at 703-405-6341 (cell), or send me e-mail at brian.shiflett@verizon.net. Yours in Scouting, Brian Shiflett |
