Goose Creek District
Scouting for Food Newsletter

October 26, 2006

Thank you for your efforts to organize Scouting for Food within your pack or troop.  I'm sending this newsletter to all unit coordinators to highlight some of the important activities and to answer some frequently asked questions.  I also post this newsletter at: http://home.earthlink.net/~blshiflett/s4f-newsletters.htm

We are just nine days away from bag distribution day.  Most of the bags are now in the hands of the pack and troop coordinators.  I still have a supply available, so if you need additional bags or want to expand your territory, please contact me.  There are a few packs and troops that have not confirmed their bag count, so please do so by this weekend.

Troop 970 provided me a copy of their bilingual bag note this week.   I've been looking for a translated bag note for years.  If you are interested in this or other bag note ideas, please see the "Resources" page on the Scouting for Food web site.

If you still haven't read the "Tips" document that I handed out at the orientations, please view it at the Scouting for Food web site.

I encourage your pack or troop to use community signs, where available, as well as homemade signs.  I ordered 150 coroplast yard signs for your use.  I had pre-orders for about 100 of them, so there should be plenty available if you are interested.  The price for a yard sign/ground stake combo is $3.75.  The signs shipped today, so I should have them ready for delivery next week.  If you haven't yet told me how many signs you want, please do so in the next few days.  After I deliver the signs to your home, please send me a check, payable to "Brian Shiflett," at the following address:

18578 Merlon Ct.
Leesburg, VA 20176-3912

I'll enclose a receipt with the signs, so that your troop or pack can send me a check or you can be reimbursed.

I was at the Purcellville Town Hall today delivering the Scouting for Food sign that is displayed on the community sign board at Main & Maple Streets.  Apparently a lady from one of the troops or packs had stopped into the office yesterday and asked if they could put up a Scouting for Food sign.  She was told that there was no more room on the board.  Perhaps if one of you knows the person who made that request, then you can tell her all is well and that our sign will be posted the week of November 5.

Press releases went out at the beginning of the week to ten newspaper and radio outlets in Loudoun County.  The text of the press release is posted on the web site on the "About" page.

As always, if you want to discuss any aspect of Scouting for Food, please give me a call at 703-737-3325 (day/evening), 703-405-6341 (cell), or send me e-mail at blshiflett@earthlink.net.

Yours in Scouting,
